Texas Longhorns Shut Out UTRGV Vaqueros 14-0 in Run-Rule Victory
AUSTIN – The No. 3 Texas Longhorns defeated the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros 14-0 in seven innings on Tuesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, continuing their undefeated start to the 2026 season.
Juniors Rocco Garza Gongora and Chayton Fischer, and senior Hank Warren each reached base twice for the Vaqueros (3-5), recording a hit and a walk apiece. Senior Thomas Williams also contributed a hit for UTRGV.
Aiden Robbins opened the scoring for the Longhorns (8-0) with a home run off UTRGV graduate student Colton Vercoe (0-2) in the first inning.
The Longhorns extended their lead in the second inning with runners at second and third and two outs. An RBI-single by Andrew Ermis and a subsequent dribbler up the third base line by Ethan Mendoza brought home two runs, making the score 3-0.
Ashton Larson added an RBI-single in the third inning, increasing the Longhorns’ advantage to 4-0.
The Longhorns broke the game open in the fifth inning. Anthony Pack Jr. Walked, stole second, and scored on an Ermis single. Robbins then hit an RBI-single, followed by a two-run home run by Carson Tinney, pushing the score to 8-0.
In the sixth inning, Adrian Rodriguez led off with a double and scored on a Robbins single. The Longhorns then loaded the bases, leading to an RBI-single by Temo Becerra, a two-run double by Pack, and an RBI-single by Presley Courville. Pack later scored on a wild pitch, finalizing the score at 14-0.
Sam Cozart (1-0) earned the win for the Longhorns, pitching 4.0 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and three walks, allowing only one hit.
UTRGV will begin Southland Conference play with the first of three games at Lamar on Friday at 6 p.m. On ESPN+.
