UTSA Men’s Golf Heads to Golden Nugget Invitational
LAKE CHARLES, La. — Following a dominant victory at the Military City Collegiate, the UTSA Roadrunners men’s golf team will travel to Lake Charles, Louisiana, to compete in the Golden Nugget Invitational, hosted by Lamar University at The Country Club at The Golden Nugget (par 72/7,000 yards).
The tournament, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, March 2-3, 2026, will feature a strong field including Abilene Christian, Houston, Lamar, Northern Colorado, Oakland, Tarleton, Troy, ULM, USC Upstate, and Wichita State. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday with an 8:30 a.m. Shotgun start, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday, also with an 8:30 a.m. Shotgun start. Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
Roadrunners Riding High After Military City Collegiate Win
UTSA secured their first team title since September 2021 at the Military City Collegiate, rallying from an eight-shot deficit to finish with a total score of 881. They edged out UT Rio Grande Valley by four strokes and Middle Tennessee by five. Lamar University Athletics reported on the tournament results.
Hong Looks to Continue Success
Freshman Joshua Hong, a Korean-Mexican athlete competing in NCAA Division I, led the Roadrunners to victory at the Military City Collegiate, earning his first collegiate win with a 1-under-par 215 (69-72-74). Hong’s official website details his accomplishments. He opened the event with a 3-under 69 and a 72 on the first day, closing with a 74 in windy conditions to win by one stroke. Hong currently leads UTSA with a 71.94 stroke average through 18 rounds and has recorded 11 par-or-better scorecards, including a pair of 69s. He has three top-10 finishes this season.
UTSA Lineup
The Roadrunners’ lineup for the Golden Nugget Invitational includes Joshua Hong, Francisco Solorza, Sam Acharya, Logan Vargas, and Brayden Bare. David Martinez and Jacob King will compete as individuals.
Logan Vargas ranks second on the team with a 73.73 scoring average, although Brayden Bare boasts a 74.56 stroke average. Martinez has a 74.67 average, and Acharya is averaging 75.33. Solorza has a 75.4 scoring mark, and King has logged a 75.92 stroke average.
