Police Launch Murder Investigation After Musician Found Dead in Weston Pool
Venezuelan singer, composer, and pianist Gus Ormo was found dead face down at the bottom of a swimming pool at his home in Weston, Florida, on Friday morning. Police received an emergency call reporting a possible drowning at approximately 9:00 a.m. and rushed to the residence on Quail Roost Drive, where authorities subsequently launched a murder investigation into the suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
Emergency Dispatch Audio Reveals Cords Around Victim
Emergency dispatch recordings indicated that the swimming pool occupant had supposedly been bound using cords. Local broadcaster WPLG Local 10 captured aerial footage showing a long blue cord stretched across Ormo’s patio, with part of the cord extending directly into the swimming pool. Authorities have yet to establish if the cord was bound to Ormo’s body upon discovery or played any part in his fatality. Ormo was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was transferred to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause of death.
Neighbors and Family React to Sudden Death
Neighbors described Ormo as a private man who kept a low profile despite his music career. Local resident Bruno Gedikinan told NBC 6, “It’s sad what happened, and it wasn’t something I expected to happen in Weston.” Ormo’s sister, Antonieta, confirmed his death to CBS News Miami, stating that relatives had received no further information from authorities regarding the ongoing investigation.
Recent Career Milestone Preceded Tragedy
The musician’s death occurred just weeks after he promoted his latest album, AGAPE, which a press release described as a milestone in his career. Discussing the project prior to his death, Ormo said, “In a world that makes us experience emotional numbness, the album is an invitation to feel without filters or need for words.” He added that the release was his way to give back to music.
What Remains Unknown in the Weston Investigation
Investigators have not revealed who placed the emergency call to police, how long the body had been in the swimming pool, or whether anyone else was at the property at the time of the death. The investigation is ongoing.
