Born on July 15, 1984, in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia), Veronika Valette-Zuzulová specialized in slalom skiing. She quickly rose through the ranks, debuting in the World Cup in 2000 at the age of 16. Before Petra Vlhová’s emergence, Zuzulová was Slovakia’s most successful alpine skier, competing in four Olympic Games – 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2018 – and eight World Championships. She achieved five World Cup victories (four in slalom and one in combined) and secured 30 podium finishes throughout her career. Her best overall World Cup result was 12th place in 2013, and she twice finished second in the slalom discipline in 2016 and 2017. She won a medal at the 2017 World Championships in St. Moritz in the team event.

Zuzulová’s journey took several turns off the slopes as well. She married coach Romain Velez in April 2012, adopting the name Veronika Valette-Zuzulová. The couple divorced in August 2022. In September 2025, she married French ski instructor Gaspard Valette. She is also a mother to two sons: Jules, whose father is Romain Velez, and Aksel, born to her and Gaspard Valette.
