Portland State Volleyball Adds Experienced Setter Asya Akbulut to 2026 Roster

PORTLAND,Ore. – The Portland State Vikings volleyball program has announced the addition of Asya Akbulut, a skilled setter from Ankara, Turkey, to their roster for the 2026 season [[1]]. Akbulut brings a wealth of experience to the team, having played at both the junior college and NCAA Division I levels.
Akbulut’s collegiate Career
Akbulut will enter her senior year with the Vikings after transferring from Southern Utah and Eastern Arizona College.She spent one season with the Thunderbirds and two seasons at Eastern Arizona, where she excelled as a setter.
During her sophomore year at Eastern arizona, Akbulut averaged 5.16 assists and 0.42 aces per set, earning her a spot on the Arizona community College Athletic Conference D1 All-Region First Team [[3]]. In her single season at Southern Utah, she led the team with 5.0 assists per set and ranked seventh in the Western athletic Conference (WAC) in that category.
Coach Seemann on Akbulut
Portland State head volleyball coach Michael Seemann expressed his enthusiasm about Akbulut joining the team. “Asya has the experience and skills to have an impact on our program instantly,” Seemann said [[1]]. “She has reliable hands and location and understands how to put her hitters in good situations.”
Looking Ahead
Akbulut joins a Portland State setter group that includes returning starter Ava Blascziek and junior Elisabeth Levick. Her addition provides the Vikings with added depth and experience at a crucial position as they prepare for the 2026 season.
