Villeneuve Medical Center Expands Facility to Meet Rising Healthcare Demands in Aveyron

The Maison Médicale de Villeneuve in Aveyron is expanding its facility to accommodate growing patient needs as it marks 50 years of operation. Fifty healthcare professionals, family members, and friends gathered on Friday, September 25, 2026, to celebrate the milestone, l’essentiel reported.

Founded in April 1976 by doctors Raymond Audouard and Jean-Pierre Gagnaire alongside Bernard Burguière, the facility broke ground as a multi-professional center before such practices were widespread. The complex currently houses four general practitioners, three dentists, and an active nursing team, with three additional practitioners scheduled to join by 2027.

Origins of the Visionary 1976 Medical Project

The commune of Villeneuve established the medical house in April 1976 through the initiative of local practitioners who wanted a practical space designed for future healthcare demands. Dr. Raymond Audouard explained that the goal was simply to create a practical environment suited to medical needs while anticipating the future.

Architect Jean Massip designed the original building using stone from the causse region. The founders established a civil real estate company involving Dr. Audouard and Dr. Gagnaire, a general practitioner and dental surgeon who previously practiced on Rue Pavée.

Evolution and Medical Training Integration Through the Decades

In 1977 and 1978, Dr. Burguière stepped down, making way for new doctors Christian Sournac and Paul Mignot. Nurses subsequently joined the practice, establishing a secretariat, scheduled rest days, shared on-call duties, and joint continuing education programs.

Dr. Jean-Christophe Poutrain arrived in 1991 and established academic ties with the medical faculty to train young general practitioners. As a university professor, he integrated Villeneuve practitioners into training, tutoring, and thesis supervision. His involvement included supervising the thesis of Jérôme Savignac, who joined the medical center in 2002 and prompted its first expansion.

Dentist Brigitte Bosc-Andrieu joined Jean-Pierre Gagnaire in 1995, later passing her practice to Frédéric and Jérôme Gagnaire. In 2016, under the impetus of Christian Sournac, the intercommunal community acquired the medical portion of the center, securing official recognition as a multi-professional medical house from the regional health agency and integrating into the Villefranchois Health Pole (POSAVI).

Medical Team Grows as Site Undergoes Construction

As of 2026, dentists Frédéric Gagnaire, Jérôme Gagnaire, and Clémence Bocahut practice at the dental office alongside general practitioners Jérôme Savignac, Barbara Philips, Aurore Guidini, and Hugues Debilly. Collaborating physicians Théo Sanchez, Camille Dubois, and incoming practitioner Juliette Calvet round out the roster ahead of 2027 arrivals.

Dr. Jérôme Savignac attributed the center’s longevity to daily cooperation and strong personal rapport among colleagues. To support this expanding team, Ouest Aveyron Communauté launched a new round of construction and remodeling work on the site.
