Virginia Thompson, Longtime Sidney Resident and Community Volunteer, Dies at 82
Virginia Eileen Thompson, a lifelong resident of Sidney, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Wilson Health. She was 82 years old.
Early Life and Education
Born on October 12, 1943, in Sidney, Ohio, Virginia was the daughter of Bernard “Bernie” and Martha “Marty” (Ferguson) Stewart. She graduated from Riverside Local School District in 1961.
Marriage and Family
Virginia married Wallace “Ed” Thompson on September 3, 1961, at the Quincy Methodist Church. The couple shared 64 years together. She is survived by her husband, Ed and their three children: Chris Thompson of Sidney, Naomi (David) Sluss of Houston, and Missi (Tony) Brandewie of Greensboro, North Carolina. She is also survived by three sisters: Trudy (Art) Hughes of Satellite Beach, Florida, Becky Jenkins of Piqua, and Aunalee Hess of DeGraff, as well as 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her brother, Scott Stewart, and brother-in-law, Richard Jenkins.
Career and Community Involvement
Virginia was a dedicated entrepreneur and community member. She owned and operated three H&R Block offices throughout her career. However, her greatest passion was serving as a school bus driver for the students of Hardin-Houston Schools.
Travels and Hobbies
Virginia and Ed enjoyed traveling extensively in their RV, visiting all 50 states and 14 countries together with their family.
Memorial Service and Burial
A Memorial Service to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Sidney First Methodist Church, with Rev. Jane Madden officiating. Her final resting place will be at Fairview Cemetery in Quincy at a later date.
