Patriarch of Jerusalem hosts Key Religious and Diplomatic Delegations
On Monday, January 20 / february 2, 2026, his Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of Jerusalem, engaged in a series of important meetings with prominent religious leaders and diplomatic representatives, underscoring the Patriarchate’s vital role in spiritual leadership and regional collaboration. These meetings highlight ongoing efforts to foster peace, preserve sacred sites, and advance educational initiatives within the Holy Land.
The day commenced with the reception of His Eminence Metropolitan Kirill of Kazan, representing the Moscow Patriarchate, alongside a delegation of priests, monks, and pilgrims. Patriarch Theophilos III warmly welcomed Metropolitan Kirill, recalling previous visits to his Metropolis and discussing the multifaceted spiritual work of the Patriarchate, particularly within the context of the recently established, yet delicate, peace agreement. This meeting signifies continued dialog and cooperation between the Orthodox Churches of Jerusalem and Moscow.
Following this, His Beatitude received His Eminence the Metropolitan of Veria and his accompanying group of clergy and pilgrims. During this encounter, Patriarch Theophilos III emphasized the foundational work of the Patriarchate, rooted in the central mysteries of the Christian faith – the Incarnation of Christ, the Divine Eucharist, and the Holy Mysteries of the Church.This underscored the enduring spiritual meaning of the Patriarchate’s mission.
The Patriarchate also engaged with diplomatic efforts, receiving Mr. Marios Stavrou, ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to ramallah. Ambassador Stavrou conveyed the Republic of Cyprus’s commitment to providing financial support for the educational programs undertaken by the Patriarchate. Patriarch Theophilos III detailed these initiatives and expressed sincere gratitude for the Republic of Cyprus’s generous offer, highlighting the importance of education in preserving cultural and religious heritage.
Concluding the day’s meetings, His Beatitude met with Franciscan monks, Fr. Dobromir and Fr. Athanasios, to discuss the crucial ongoing conservation work at two of Christianity’s most revered sites: the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem. This collaboration between the Patriarchate and the Franciscan custody demonstrates a shared dedication to the preservation of these historically and religiously significant landmarks.
