The recommended daily intake of vitamin D varies depending on age and individual health factors. Generally, adults need around 8.5 micrograms (340 International Units) per day. However,individuals with risk factors like limited sun exposure,darker skin pigmentation,or certain medical conditions may require higher doses – but only under medical supervision.

Instead of promptly reaching for supplements, Isenmann suggests focusing on vitamin D-rich foods. These include fatty fish (salmon, tuna, mackerel), egg yolks, and fortified foods like milk and cereals. Even a short walk outdoors during daylight hours, when possible, can contribute to vitamin D production.
