Vitebsk’s “Energy Marathon” Ignites Regional Innovation in Energy Efficiency
Vitebsk recently concluded the regional stage of the 19th Republican Energy Marathon competition, showcasing a surge in innovative projects focused on energy conservation. The event, held at the regional palace of children and youth, drew participation from over 1,550 students, teachers, and kindergarteners, resulting in the selection of 523 projects for the final stage.
A Legacy of Energy Efficiency
Vitaly Kretsky, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus and Director of the Department of Energy Efficiency, highlighted the Vitebsk region’s longstanding commitment to the Energy Marathon. He noted the region’s accumulated experience, originating as the project’s birthplace, and praised the passion demonstrated by both children and educators. Belarus24
Fostering Engineering Talent
Kretsky emphasized the development of a structured approach to training engineering personnel, with career guidance initiatives beginning in elementary grades. This aims to ensure students consciously choose relevant specialties, contributing to a skilled workforce.
Education and Environmental Awareness
Dmitry Khoma, head of the main department for education of the regional executive committee, underscored the importance of topics related to the economy and national development. He highlighted the education system’s focus on environmental education and energy saving practices.
Project Highlights and Winners
The competition featured a diverse range of projects. In the “Gamification in Energy Saving” category, a didactic game created by pupils of kindergarten No. 112 and a board game developed by Evgeniy Chernook, a student at Polotsk State Technical College, were recognized as the best. Awards also went to students from Vitebsk Gymnasium No. 5 named after I. Lyudnikov, Vitebsk State Industrial and Technological College, and Novopolotsk State College for their computer game, “Energy Balance.”
A unique category, “Energy Saving Family,” awarded Ivan Ivanov, a student at the Vidzovsky secondary school in the Braslav district, raised in a family-type orphanage. This nomination is exclusive to the Vitebsk region.
Advancing to the National Stage
The winning projects will now represent the Vitebsk region at the final stage of the 19th Republican Energy Marathon competition, scheduled to grab place next week.
