Gigabit-fast internet from Vodafone:

New information highways for 1,300 households in the Schwäbisch Hall district

  • Vodafone is improving infrastructure with two measures in the fixed network
  • From now on, more stability and speed on the internet

Düsseldorf, February 12, 2026. Good news for Schwäbisch Hall – Vodafone has completed an important modernization measure here. Within just a few months, the Düsseldorf network operator has implemented two construction projects to make the local cable-fiber network even more stable and efficient. In many areas, new fiber optic cables were pulled into the ground and additional fiber optic nodes were built for ever smaller network segments – usually without any significant impact on residents or road traffic. Around 1,300 cable households in Vellberg will benefit from the construction of these new information highways as they will now be able to use a much more stable and powerful landline network. There is now sufficient capacity available for data-intensive applications such as video conferences, music and video streaming, especially at peak times.

Strong demand among the population

With its investments in expanding the broadband network, Vodafone is also taking into account the strong demand from the population: data traffic in the Schwäbisch Hall district is growing rapidly – with an annual increase rate of currently 12 percent. People are surfing the Internet more and more often – for professional reasons, to do their banking and online shopping, or to maintain their contacts on social media. A stable broadband network is particularly necessary if residents of Schwäbisch Hall watch videos, series and TV programs in live streams, follow cultural and sporting events such as the broadcast of the Bundesliga and the Champions League, or obtain information from media companies’ news portals.

The modernization measures that have now been completed in Vellberg are part of a broad infrastructure offensive. In the last financial year alone, Vodafone carried out over 3,500 construction projects in many cities and districts across Germany to improve network quality. Nationwide landline tests conducted by independent specialist magazines show that the measures are being received by customers. This is how the Vodafone cable network performs in the current one CHIP landline test 2025 In the price-performance category, it received the top mark for the third time. Vodafone also won the “Tempo National” category this year.

Last year, Vodafone’s technicians brought more and more fiber optics into the cable network and massively increased the number of network elements with more than 3,500 measures for our customers. In places where a particularly large number of consumers use our landline network, we have divided the network segments with additional fiber optic nodes. There are now significantly fewer Internet users using our network in the same area at the same time than in the past. This means that, on average, each individual customer receives significantly more speed and reliability. This increases the quality when streaming, playing online games and working virtually from the home office.

Segmentation or expansion of the regional backbone connection

Depending on where there is a risk of bottlenecks in the cable fiber optic network, there are various measures available to eliminate them. One of them is so-called segmentation. This is used when the bottleneck occurs directly at the amplifier point. Here, individual amplifier points are converted into fiber nodes by replacing the coaxial cable provided for the connection with fiber optics. The fiber optic share in the cable network is continuously growing towards customers’ home connections. If the bottleneck occurs in the transition from the national to the regional backbone, the transport performance in this section of the network is increased by connecting additional fiber optic connections. Comparable to a highway on which another lane is opened.
