VOLTA 2026 Seminar Hosts Disruptive Public Space Animation Workshop

An artistic and audiovisual approach to urban spaces has been incorporated into the Seminario VOLTA 2026 through the workshop Disruptive Animations in Public Space. The initiative adapts a methodology currently being tested with four schools in Barcelona to an adult audience across three connected sessions.

Observing and Imagining the Pati Manning Surroundings

The first session focuses on reading and observing daily life in shared urban environments. Participants examine how they use local areas, what catches their attention, and what changes they want to see. This observational phase takes place around Pati Manning, where attendees record daily routines, movements, and situations to build a visual foundation for the subsequent workshops.

Intervening in Reality Through Analog Rotoscoping

Participants select specific visual fragments gathered during the initial phase and modify them manually, frame by frame. The process uses drawing, color, textures, and imaginative elements to alter original scenes. This technique turns everyday reality into an experimental canvas for testing new narratives and altering how urban spaces are perceived.

Creating Collective Audiovisual Pieces for Closing Projections

The final session brings together all created fragments to build a collective audiovisual piece that reflects multiple perspectives on public space. The workshop ends with a collective projection during the closing of Seminario VOLTA 2026. The project uses animation, drawing, and imagination to encourage critical observation of the city. The workshop is facilitated by Luz Sur, Emilia Martínez, and Lucía Díaz.
