Metro United Way volunteers assembled over 100 beds in New Albany, ensuring southern Indiana children have a secure, restful environment to thrive and learn.
NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Dozens of volunteers came out on a frigid Saturday to help those in the community in need.
Metro United Way volunteers helped build 100 beds at the Prosser Education Center in New Albany for kids across southern Indiana.
The organization says beds represent safety, stability and a place that fosters rest and in turn, learning and growth for developing children.
The help meet that need, each child will receive a complete bed set up, including a bed frame, mattress, sheets, blanket and a pillow.
“We are asking these kids to show up in the classroom to be the best that they can be and learn. If they are not starting that day with a good night’s sleep – the possibility of that being successful is pretty slim,” Metro United Way director Pam Ottersbach said. “This is just one way that we can do our part in helping create thriving kids in our community by allowing them to have a good night’s sleep.”
The organization’s Build-A-Bed initiative will provide more than 100 beds and family support kits to children in southern Indiana, bringing the total number of beds distributed to 1,250 since the program’s inception.
