VTwonen Couple Puts Furniture Up For Sale After Viral Makeover Dispute

Denise and René, the couple who gained notoriety after publicly expressing their dissatisfaction with a home makeover on the Dutch television show vTwonen: Weer Verliefd op je Huis, are now selling pieces from their revamped home on Marktplaats, a Dutch online marketplace. The couple’s strong reaction to the design choices made by stylist Fietje Bruijn went viral in late 2025, sparking a national conversation about interior design expectations and client satisfaction.

The Viral Makeover and Initial Reaction

The dispute arose during an episode of vTwonen: Weer Verliefd op je Huis, where the couple hoped for a fresh interior design for their home of over twenty years. However, René was particularly vocal about his dislike for several elements of the makeover, including a pink design bank and a wooden structure around the staircase. He famously stated, “That can approach out again soon, it’s terrible,” regarding the staircase addition according to Hart van Nederland.

Agreement to Remain Silent

Following the public outcry and media attention, René stated that he and Denise reached an agreement with VTwonen to refrain from further public discussion of the matter. “We have agreed with VTwonen that we will no longer talk about the issue,” he told De Telegraaf. “That is not unwise in situations like these. But well, you can just look inside and then you immediately see what the situation is like.”

Items Listed for Sale

A visit from a journalist revealed that several elements of the makeover have since been removed, including the wooden staircase structure, a dark wall that has been repainted white, and numerous decorative accessories. The couple is now selling the pink sofa, which originally cost €3695, for €1500 on Marktplaats as reported by RTL. Other items available for purchase include a VTwonen-branded dinner service, a floor lamp, and decorative wall shelves.

Stylist’s Reaction

Stylist Fietje Bruijn expressed surprise at the couple’s strong negative reaction, stating that she had never experienced such a response in her career. “The fierceness and lack of nuance with which this was accompanied was hard to take,” she told AD. “You always hope that people are happy with what you have done. That’s what I always do with a lot of love and pleasure. That they thought I was so wrong surprised me.”

Cost of the Makeover

The couple’s dissatisfaction sparked debate about the value and cost of the vTwonen: Weer Verliefd op je Huis makeovers. While initial reports suggested a cost of €15,000, further investigation revealed the actual amount paid by René and Denise was significantly higher according to Social Nieuws.
