SV Werder Bremen head coach Daniel Thioune heads into Saturday’s Bundesliga away fixture against 1. FSV Mainz 05 aiming for his team’s first defensive clean sheet of the league campaign, deichstube.de reported.
Senne Lynen Returns to the Mainz Squad
Belgian defensive midfielder Senne Lynen returned to full team training on Friday during a chilly, drizzling session and traveled with the squad to Rhineland-Palatinate. It marks his first matchday squad inclusion since the opening weekend of the season. However, Thioune noted that a direct start comes too soon for the returning midfielder.
Striker Justin Njinmah also completed Friday’s full training program after recovering from his own layoff. Club officials expect him to rejoin the matchday squad selections in the very near future. Despite these returns, Thioune still manages eight ongoing squad absences ahead of Saturday’s fixture.
Expected Werder Starting Lineup
Werder Bremen’s starting XI has remained unchanged for five consecutive league matches. With limited personnel options due to the ongoing injuries, major alterations are unlikely. Mitchell Weiser is pushing for a return to the right wing after strong substitute appearances, which could place Eren Dinkci on the bench.

Karl Hein retains his position as the undisputed starting goalkeeper. Olivier Deman and Arthur man the left and right defensive flanks respectively, while captain Marco Friedl and Amos Pieper form the central defensive pairing. The central midfield trio of Youri Regeer, Ludovit Reis, and Chuki continues its run after solid recent outings. Marco Grüll anchors the left wing, and Niclas Füllkrug starts at center-forward. Füllkrug shares the top spot in the Bundesliga goalscoring charts with Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick, netting six goals in six league appearances.
