WhatsApp Expands Payments to More Regions in New iOS Beta

WhatsApp payments are expanding to new international regions through the WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.33.10.70 update distributed via TestFlight, building on existing digital transaction infrastructure that bridges personal transfers and commercial messaging. According to Infobip, the platform splits financial features into two distinct systems operating inside the same application: WhatsApp Pay for peer-to-peer personal money transfers, and Payments on WhatsApp for business-to-consumer commerce.

How Conversational Commerce Operates on WhatsApp

The messaging application allows users to handle transactions directly within chat threads rather than redirecting them to external checkout pages. According to Infobip, the system integrates a product catalog, shopping cart, and checkout flow into a single conversation. In Brazil, businesses can generate secure payment links within chat interfaces and track transaction statuses in real time. Meanwhile, merchants in India and Brazil can share QR codes directly in chat threads to let customers scan and pay quickly.

Comparing Regional Payment Ecosystems and Methods

Supported payment methods and transaction architectures vary significantly across global markets due to local regulatory frameworks and banking partnerships. In India, peer-to-peer transfers run on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), while business payments utilize UPI alongside debit cards, credit cards, and net banking through payment gateways. Transactions in India carry a per-transaction limit of ₹100,000 alongside daily volume restrictions. In Brazil, transactions rely on debit cards, credit cards, and supported bank methods via local partners, with peer-to-peer systems operating locally and business transactions subject to a per-transaction limit of R$1,000 alongside monthly caps. Markets such as Singapore currently offer limited partner-led pilots for business payments without peer-to-peer availability.

Setting Up Personal and Business Payments In-App

Users in supported regions configure peer-to-peer money transfers directly through the application settings. According to Infobip documentation, setting up WhatsApp Pay in India requires navigating to Settings, selecting Payments, and adding a bank account by verifying via SMS and confirming a UPI PIN. Users in Brazil navigate to Settings, select Payments, add a debit or credit card, and create a Facebook Pay PIN. To execute a transfer, users open an individual chat, tap the designated payment icon, input the transfer amount, and authenticate the transaction using their regional PIN.
