How to Use WhatsApp’s View Once Feature for Enhanced Privacy

WhatsApp has introduced a new privacy feature allowing users to send photos and videos that can only be viewed once by the recipient. This feature, similar to those found on Snapchat and Instagram, enhances message security by automatically deleting the media as soon as it’s opened. This differs from WhatsApp’s disappearing message feature, which deletes messages after seven days – a timeframe sufficient for screenshots to be taken.

How to send View Once Photos and Videos:

  1. Update WhatsApp: Ensure you are using the latest version of the WhatsApp request. You can update through the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
  2. Open a Chat: Navigate to the conversation wiht the person you want to send a photo or video to.
  3. Select Media: Choose the photo or video you wish to send.
  4. activate View Once: Before sending, look for the number “1” icon within the text input bar, typically appearing below the photo/video preview. Tap this icon to enable the “view once” option.
  5. Send: Send the message as usual.

Once the recipient opens the photo or video, it will disappear and can no longer be viewed.

Availability:

WhatsApp is rolling out this feature globally. If you don’t see the “1” icon immediately,it may take a few days for the update to reach your account. WABetaInfo confirms the feature is now widely available as of December 2023, but rollout completion may vary.
