The spoiler option will be accessible alongside existing formatting tools like bold, italic, and strikethrough.
Once applied, the concealed text will be masked with a grey bar, requiring recipients to tap to reveal the content. WhatsApp is too preparing a shortcut for manual formatting using double pipes (||text||), mirroring functionality found on platforms like Discord and Reddit. Currently, the feature is limited to text messages, with no indication of expansion to media formats like photos or videos.
Username Availability Verification: Protecting Phone Number Privacy
Alongside spoiler formatting, WhatsApp is introducing a username availability verification system for its web client. This feature allows users to check the availability of a desired username directly from their profile page, enhancing phone number privacy.
