WhatsApp Translation: 13 New Languages Added for Easier Chatting

WhatsApp Expands In-App Message Translation for Broader Language Support

WhatsApp is significantly expanding its translation feature, adding support for 13 additional language packs to facilitate smoother international communication. The update aims to break down language barriers directly within the messaging app, eliminating the need for users to rely on third-party translation tools.

Enhanced Translation Capabilities

The expansion of WhatsApp’s translation function provides users with a wider selection of languages, making it easier to understand messages from contacts around the globe. WABetaInfo first reported the rollout of these new language packs.

On-Device Translation for Enhanced Privacy

A key aspect of WhatsApp’s translation feature is that translations are processed directly on the user’s device, rather than being sent to external servers. This approach ensures end-to-end encryption is maintained, protecting the privacy of sensitive content. Users can download individual language packs as needed, allowing them to customize the feature based on their specific requirements.

Current Language Support

As of March 24, 2026, Android users have access to six languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic. PCMag reports that iOS users can leverage Apple’s iOS Translate app to access 19 languages, including Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Meta plans to gradually add more languages to both platforms.

How to Use WhatsApp’s Translation Feature

To translate a message in WhatsApp:

  1. Ensure you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  2. Open a chat with a message in a different language.
  3. Tap and hold the message you wish to translate.
  4. Tap the three-dot menu icon.
  5. Select “Translate” from the menu.

WhatsApp will automatically detect the language of the message and translate it to your default app language. StechGuide provides a step-by-step guide to using the feature.

Potential for Future Integration

The underlying technology used for message translation could potentially be applied to other WhatsApp features, such as the transcription of voice messages. This would further enhance the app’s accessibility and convenience for users communicating across language barriers.

Additional Updates: Simplified Logout Process

Beyond the translation feature, WhatsApp is similarly working on simplifying the logout process. Currently, logging out can be cumbersome, often requiring users to delete their account or remove the app. The upcoming change aims to provide a more straightforward and user-friendly logout experience.

Staying Updated

WhatsApp continues to roll out updates and improvements to enhance the user experience. Users are encouraged to retain their app updated to access the latest features and ensure optimal performance. The WhatsApp Help Center recommends keeping the app updated to receive new features as soon as they become available.
