Whisper Hospital Celebrates a Decade of Transforming Healthcare in Uganda, Announces Expansion
Jinja, Uganda – On March 19, 2026, Whisper’s Hospital marked its tenth anniversary and the beginning of its second decade of service with a series of celebrations and announcements signaling significant expansion and modernization. Founded by Veronika Cejpkova, the hospital has evolved from a modest children’s clinic to a comprehensive medical facility serving both the underprivileged and the broader Ugandan population.
A Vision Rooted in Compassion
Veronika Cejpkova’s journey began with a deep commitment to humanitarianism and a desire to address the critical lack of accessible healthcare in Uganda. Driven by this passion, she established the first non-governmental children’s hospital in Jinja city in 2016, with a founding vision of “Changing health care through love and happiness in Uganda and around the world.”
Initially operating with limited resources, the hospital quickly gained recognition for providing standard healthcare solutions, often at no cost to patients. Despite facing numerous challenges, Cejpkova’s determination fueled the hospital’s growth, leading to a relocation to larger premises on Madhvani Road in Jinja.
Expanding Services to Meet Growing Needs
As demand increased, Whisper’s Hospital expanded its services beyond pediatric care to include maternity care, becoming “Whisper’s Magical Children’s Hospital and Maternity.” This expansion positioned the hospital as a leader in pediatric, maternity and fertility care, offering sophisticated medical procedures at affordable costs.
The hospital has been instrumental in addressing critical health issues such as malnutrition and sickle cell disease, providing specialized clinics and programs to improve the health of children and women. Whisper currently treats around 900-1500 patients every month, having provided care to over 55,000 children since its inception in March 2016.
Recognizing the need to serve a wider population, Whisper’s Hospital also began accepting medical insurance and direct billing plans from various providers, including ICEA, APA, CIC, Britam, Jubilee, Minet, Prudential Allianz, GA, BOU, and KIBO. This led to the opening of a branch in Kampala (Kyanja, Kumbuzi road).
A Decade of Impact and Future Growth
The tenth-anniversary celebration on March 19, 2026, included a parade led by the Mbiiko Brass band, bringing together partners, staff, former patients, and community members. During the event, Cejpkova and the hospital’s COO, Dr. Emem Offong, outlined the hospital’s history and future plans.
Key announcements included the opening of a modernized VIP lounge and a state-of-the-art intensive care unit. The hospital also announced the introduction of modern specialties, including neurosurgery, plastic surgery, and a physician department, complementing existing services like ENT, general surgery, and orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Offong emphasized plans for further expansion and the incorporation of advanced services such as laparoscopy, endoscopy, and colonoscopy. The hospital has also undergone a rebranding initiative to enhance customer care and experience at both branches, preparing for continued growth in the coming decade. Veronika Cejpkova continues to collaborate with international organizations to ensure constant improvement in healthcare.
