Why Actor Choi Min-sik Keeps His Natural Grey Hair

Actor Choi Min-shik addressed his signature silver hair during a March 30 appearance on Jung Jae-hyung’s YouTube channel, revealing that he avoids hair dye due to an allergy that causes severe facial swelling. According to the interview, the natural look is not a deliberate style choice but a physical necessity for the veteran star.

Choi Min-shik Explains Natural Silver Hair on YouTube

During the YouTube segment, host Jung Jae-hyung complimented Choi’s hair style, asking if it was a current trend, according to JoyNews24. Choi explained that he simply let his hair salon staff style it as they wished for his appearance on the show. When Jung remarked on the striking silver hair and asked if it was natural, Choi confirmed that he does not dye his hair by choice.

“It’s natural. I have a hair dye allergy,” Choi said, according to the interview. He added that if a specific acting role requires him to color his hair, he must take medication beforehand to prevent a severe reaction. Without the medication, he noted, his face swells to twice its normal size. “I also want to look young,” Choi remarked regarding his silver locks.

Managing Hair Dye Allergies in the Entertainment Industry

For Choi, maintaining his uncolored hair remains a practical health measure dictated by these physiological reactions, even as public perception embraces his distinguished look. The actor continues to balance his physical health requirements with his active career in film and television.
