While Sony’s live-action Venom films portray Eddie Brock differently than traditional Marvel Comics lore, future crossover events in the MCU offer a canonical path for Peter Parker to encounter the alien costume.
The Secret Wars Connection and the Black Suit
According to Marvel Comics history, the origin of Spider-Man’s black suit is tied directly to the massive crossover event Secret Wars. In issue #8 of the original 1984 Secret Wars series, Peter Parker damages his traditional costume on the artificial planet Battleworld and uses a mysterious alien machine to generate a replacement. This device covers him in a black-and-white outfit that forms the iconic symbiote suit. When Peter returns to Earth in The Amazing Spider-Man #252, he discovers the suit is a living organism with its own agenda. After Peter rejects the entity, it bonds with journalist Eddie Brock, creating the villainous Venom.
Tom Holland’s Future in the MCU
If Holland’s Spider-Man eventually dons the symbiote suit on screen, he will follow in the footsteps of Tobey Maguire. Maguire famously wore the symbiote suit in 2007’s Spider-Man 3, marking the only live-action cinematic appearance of the black suit to date. While Feige and Pascal have expressed interest in integrating Venom, navigating the distinct tones of Sony’s standalone franchise and Marvel Studios’ interconnected universe remains a central challenge for producers.
