Wisconsin High School Wrestling: State Tournament Highlights from the Kohl Center

The Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin, recently hosted the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament, showcasing the talent and dedication of Wisconsin’s top high school wrestlers. The tournament featured both boys’ and girls’ divisions, with athletes competing for coveted podium positions.

Local Athletes Shine at State Tournament

Several local wrestlers made their mark at the state tournament. Bay Port Pirate Beckett competed in the 100lb weight class, demonstrating skill and determination on the mat. Bay Port as well saw success with Behling securing a spot on the podium in the 120lb weight class and Athey achieving podium finishes in both the 120lb and 175lb weight classes. Schlump also competed in the 132lb weight class for Bay Port.

Representing Seymour, Boehlein competed in the 126lb weight class, even as Peters stood on the 144lb weight class podium. De Pere was represented by Neville, who competed and secured a podium finish in the 157lb weight class, and Falk, who earned a podium spot in the 113lb weight class. Pulaski’s Olsen also achieved a podium finish in the 215lb weight class, and West De Pere’s Kruse competed in the 235lb weight class, also earning a podium position.

Historic Achievement in Girls’ Wrestling

The WIAA State Tournament also witnessed a historic moment in girls’ wrestling. Lena’s Taylor Whiting became the first girl to win four state wrestling titles in WIAA history, defeating Manitowoc Lutheran’s Emjay Neumann in the girls 114-pound championship match with a 10-5 decision.
