Willie Nelson Announces ‘Dream Chaser’ Album, Featuring Bob Dylan Collaboration

Country music icon Willie Nelson is set to release his 79th solo studio album, Dream Chaser, on May 29 via Legacy Recordings. The project marks Nelson’s 156th album overall and includes a co-written song with Bob Dylan, a frequent collaborator, and friend. Rolling Stone first reported the news on March 18, 2026.

A Rare Dylan-Nelson Collaboration

The new album features the track “I Can’t Read Your Mind,” co-written by Nelson and Dylan. This collaboration is particularly noteworthy, as the pair have only previously co-written one song together: “Heartland,” which appeared on Nelson’s 1993 album, Across the Borderline. Pitchfork highlighted the rarity of this songwriting partnership.

Dylan’s Reflections on Nelson

Bob Dylan offered a glowing tribute to Willie Nelson in a 2025 New Yorker profile, describing him as “Ancient Viking Soul? Master Builder of the Impossible? Patron poet of people who never quite fit in and don’t much care to?” Dylan continued, praising Nelson’s kindness, generosity, and understanding of human nature. Pitchfork shared this quote from the profile.

‘Dream Chaser’ Tracklist

The 10-song album, Dream Chaser, includes the following tracks:

  • Dream Chaser
  • Fly Away
  • We’d Produce A Good Movie
  • I Can’t Read Your Mind
  • Whiskey Wants Me To Wonder What I’m Gonna Do After All
  • Love Overdue
  • I Don’t Think I’ve Cried Today
  • Developing My Pictures

The title track, “Dream Chaser,” was co-written with Buddy Cannon and Bobby Tomberlin. JamBase provided the full tracklist.

Ongoing Tour and Legacy

Prior to the album’s release, Willie Nelson will begin a U.S. Tour on April 22. As of March 18, 2026, Nelson has released 78 solo albums since his debut in 1962. Rolling Stone noted Nelson’s prolific output and enduring career.
