A 25-year-old Wilmington man was arrested and charged late Thursday following an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl inside a vehicle in a New Castle County parking lot, according to the New Castle County Division of Police. Ahmir Miller was taken into custody during a traffic stop on September 24 at approximately 10:55 p.m., police said.
Social Media Contact and Old Capitol Trail Incident
Investigators stated that Miller and the 13-year-old victim first began communicating through a social media messaging platform in July. After weeks of exchanging messages, police reported that Miller drove to the victim’s home and transported her to a parking lot located in the 3300 block of Old Capitol Trail. The alleged sexual assault took place inside Miller’s vehicle at that location, according to police accounts. Detectives also stated that Miller threatened the teenager with bodily harm if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
Arrest Timeline and Criminal Charges
New Castle County Police detectives located Miller’s vehicle on Thursday, September 24, and executed a traffic stop at approximately 10:55 p.m. Officers arrested him without incident, transporting the suspect to New Castle County Police headquarters for processing. Miller was subsequently arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
According to the Division of Police, Miller faces the following formal charges:
- One felony count of rape
- One felony count of unlawful sexual contact
- One misdemeanor count of terroristic threatening
Bail for Miller was set at $55,000 cash. He remains detained at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
