Windsor Man Named Royal Canadian Naval Reserve Sailor of the Year Petty Officer Second Class Griffin Chauvin of Windsor has been named the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve Sailor of the Year for 2026. The award recognizes his exceptional professionalism, dedication, and leadership during a period of outstanding service. Chauvin, a 24-year-old full-time reservist, was nominated by his home unit, HMCS Hunter, and selected following a rigorous review process. He attended Brennan Catholic High School in Windsor and joined the Naval Reserve in 2018 through a cooperative education opportunity. In addition to serving as the basic training coordinator at HMCS Hunter, Chauvin regularly volunteers at Windsor’s Downtown Mission. He has also participated in training exercises across Canada and Europe and was deployed to Latvia as part of Operation REASSURANCE. Reflecting on the honor, Chauvin said he never imagined reaching this point eight years ago when he described himself as a shy and introverted individual. He emphasized that the recognition reflects both his personal growth and the support he received from his leadership within the reserves. The Naval Reserve Sailor of the Year award is presented annually to a reservist who exemplifies the highest standards of service, professionalism, and commitment to the Royal Canadian Navy and Canada.
