Winnipeg Blue Bombers Sign Canadian Quarterback Taylor Elgersma The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have officially signed Canadian quarterback Taylor Elgersma to a contract through the 2028 CFL season, ending a prolonged pursuit of the London, Ontario native who was selected by the team in the second round, 18th during the 2025 CFL Draft. Elgersma, a six-foot-five, 227-pound quarterback, brings professional experience from multiple football leagues to Winnipeg’s quarterback room. Prior to signing with the Bombers, he participated in rookie mini-camps with both the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills in the NFL. During his time with Green Bay, Elgersma completed 16-of-23 passes for 166 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in three preseason games, recording a 104.6 quarterback rating. He was also selected by the Birmingham Stallions in the 2026 United Football League Quarterback Draft. Although he missed the Stallions’ first three regular season games due to work visa processing delays, Elgersma was permitted to remain with the team on an unpaid basis while awaiting resolution. The quarterback expressed strong commitment to joining the CFL franchise, stating he never viewed Winnipeg as a backup option despite his NFL and UFL opportunities. “Winnipeg’s not a backup for anything. I have great respect for the culture of that locker room, for what the CFL is. I don’t view it at all as a plan A or plan B,” Elgersma said in January interviews with 3DownNation. Elgersma officially agreed to terms on a standard rookie contract (two years plus an option) late Thursday afternoon and is scheduled to report for rookie camp on May 6th. The signing concludes the Bombers’ long wait to secure their 2025 draft pick, who will now compete for a role in Winnipeg’s quarterback lineup heading into the 2026 CFL season.
