Heavy Snow and Ice to Impact Michigan

A large snow band is expected to sweep across Michigan late Sunday and into Monday. Teh forecast calls for heavy snow – up to 6 to 8 inches in some areas – and potential freezing drizzle or a wintry mix.This will create messy road conditions tonight and during Monday morning’s commute.

The heaviest snow is expected across the Tip of the Mitt, from Petoskey to St. Ignace, and along the southern curve of the Upper Peninsula near the Lake Michigan shoreline. These areas could see up to 6 to 8 inches of heavy snow.

The rest of the upper Peninsula and much of Northern Michigan are forecast to receive 2 to 5 inches of snow.

“A burst of snow, heavy at times, is expected tonight into early Monday, with several inches of snow expected for much of Northern michigan,” said meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Gaylord. “snow may mix with or change to freezing drizzle late tonight through Monday morning, with a coating of ice possible. Snow-covered and slick roads are expected, leading to hazardous travel during the Monday morning commute.”
