Police in Auch intercepted a female motorist driving in the city center at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Friday, May 16, with a blood alcohol level nearly seven times the legal limit, ouest-france.fr reported. The 40-year-old driver had arrived at her workplace earlier that morning showing signs of intoxication, prompting coworkers to intervene and temporarily prevent her from getting behind the wheel.

Driver Slips Away From Workplace Intervention

Coworkers attempted to stop the woman from driving after noticing she was intoxicated upon her arrival at work. Although colleagues initially succeeded in keeping her from her vehicle, she later slipped away from their supervision. She then left the premises in her car before officers intercepted her in the center of Auch, located in the Gers department.

Alcohol Level Reaches Nearly Seven Times the Legal Limit

Officers measured the driver’s blood alcohol content at 3.40 grams per liter of blood following the traffic stop. That concentration is roughly seven times the legal driving limit in France. Police transported the motorist to the local station following the interception, where a doctor evaluated her condition and determined she was unfit for standard police custody.

Hospitalization Follows Sobriety Cell Placement

Authorities placed the woman in a sobriety cell for the night. She suffered an epileptic seizure a few hours later, requiring an immediate transfer to the hospital. Investigators noted that it remains unknown whether the medical episode had any connection to the large quantity of alcohol she consumed.

Police Seize Vehicle and Prepare to Question Driver

Police officers confiscated the driver’s license and immobilized her vehicle at the scene. Authorities will question her in police custody as soon as medical staff clear her for discharge. Investigators plan to examine why the motorist reached such an extreme level of intoxication during the early morning hours.
