Salukis Fall to bradley in MVC Opener

CARBONDALE, Ill. – After an 11-day break,the Southern Illinois women’s basketball team (2-7,0-1) started Missouri Valley conference play on Thursday with a game at Bradley (7-4,1-0). The Saluki defence played well, but the offense struggled, and thay lost 64-47.
“We did a lot of things we planned to do; we executed,” said assistant coach Greg Brown. “I think we did a lot of good things except finish the game.”
Inside the Box Score
- Indya Green led the Salukis with 16 points. Alayna Kraus also scored in double figures with 11 points.
- Karris Allen led the team in rebounding with five boards.
- Tkiyah Nelson had three assists and two steals.
How it Happened
Frist Quarter
The Salukis scored first with a jump shot from Green at the 8:50 mark. Bradley quickly tied the game and then took a 4-2 lead. A three-point play by Jeniah Thompson gave SIU the lead back, and two free throws from Green made the score 7-4.
Four rapid points from Bradley put them ahead 8-7, and a basket at the buzzer gave Bradley a three-point lead after the first quarter.
Second Quarter
The second quarter started with another minute of no scoring before Bradley made a free throw to go up 12-7. Kraus made a jump shot to get the Salukis within three, but Bradley went on a 6-0 run to lead 18-9 with 5:22 left in the half.
Kynnedi Davis scored for SIU after being fouled, but Bradley scored six more points to make it 24-11 with 2:26 left before halftime. Green then made a jump shot to close the gap.
