Brown Women’s Basketball Defeats Maine 70-39
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Teh Brown women’s basketball team (3-2) defeated the Maine Black Bears (1-4) 70-39 inside the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sunday afternoon, securing its third-straight win of the season.
“Really happy with how our team attacked the game today,” said Monique LeBlanc,Elizabeth F. Turner ’98 Coaching Chair for Women’s Basketball. “Coming into this game, adn over the past couple of days at practice, our team focused on and discussed how to play a full 40 minutes.”
Senior guard Grace Arnolie led the Bears in scoring,achieving a season-high 22 points. She also shot 60% from beyond the arc.
Senior forward Alyssa Moreland scored the second-most points for the team with 17. Moreland shot 80% from the field,grabbed seven rebounds,and recorded four steals.
Senior forward Ada anamekwe saw increased playing time, contributing four points, a block, and a steal in her four minutes on the court.
The Bears started strong with a layup from Moreland,initiating a 6-0 run. Maine responded with their only basket of the quarter at 6:09. Brown then launched a 15-0 run to conclude the first quarter. Six Bears combined for Brown’s 21 points in the first quarter, while holding Maine to just two.
Maine outscored Brown by only one point (14-13) in the second quarter, failing to close the gap. Arnolie extended Brown’s advantage with two free throws.
