WVU Gymnastics Secures Runner-Up Finish at Towson Quad Meet
TOWSON, Md. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team achieved a second-place finish at the Towson University quad meet on March 1, 2026, surpassing the host Tigers and Ursinus College, but falling just behind North Carolina State University.1
Mountaineers Reach Season High
WVU recorded its first score above 196 this season, posting a 196.35 – their highest team score since March 12, 2023.1
Event Highlights
Uneven Bars
The Mountaineers began the meet on the uneven bars, led by impressive performances from freshmen Kayla Smith (9.8) and Haley Mendoza (9.75).1 Junior Amber Lowe contributed a 9.85, while Jayden McDonnell added a 9.75. Jurnee Lane rounded out the event with a 9.825, resulting in a team score of 48.975.1
Balance Beam
Lowe anchored WVU’s balance beam rotation with a score of 9.9.1 Mendoza and sophomore Eden Webster both scored 9.825, while Kaylei Adams earned a 9.675. Senior Miranda Smith made her season debut, scoring a 9.725.1
Floor Exercise
The Mountaineers excelled on the floor exercise, with several scores exceeding 9.8. Sophomores Taylor Tuohy and Emerson Smith each achieved a 9.9, while Sophia Rice scored a 9.875.1 Jurnee Lane added a 9.850, and Kayla Smith and Carlee Nelson scored 9.775 and 9.750, respectively.1
Vault
Emerson Smith led the vault rotation with a 9.825, a score matched by Kayla Smith, Tuohy, DiCello, and Rice. Nelson scored a 9.8.1
Final Standings
NC State secured the top spot with a score of 197.15, followed by WVU at 196.35. Towson finished third with 195.675, and Ursinus scored 191.775.1
Next Meet
The Mountaineers will next travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to compete against the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+.1
