WVU Swimming and Diving Competes at Huge 12 Championships
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The West Virginia University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams concluded the first day of competition at the 2026 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The championships run from Tuesday, February 24th through Saturday, February 28th, 2026 [SwimSwam].
Men’s Team Highlights
The men’s 800-yard freestyle relay team achieved the third-fastest time in program history, finishing with a time of 6:27.89. The team consisted of sophomore Nick Lugo, junior Vedaant Madhavan, redshirt junior Christian Simpson, and senior Max Nielsen. They placed seventh overall [WVUSports].
In diving, the men’s team—sophomore Levi Hellmann, senior Christian Torres, and redshirt senior Glenn Eloriaga—scored a total of 315.45 points to secure sixth place [WVUSports].
Women’s Team Highlights
The women’s 800-yard freestyle relay team, comprised of freshman Delia Ostafi, junior Maddie Smutny, and seniors Gabriela Martin and Olivia Busch, finished seventh with a time of 7:17.17 [WVUSports].
Wednesday’s Schedule
The Mountaineers will resume competition on Wednesday, February 25th, with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. The evening session, starting at 5:15 p.m., will feature the women’s 1-meter diving event, followed by finals in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, and men’s 3-meter diving [WVUSports].
Big 12 Championships at Greensboro Aquatic Center
The Big 12 Conference selected the Greensboro Aquatic Center to host the 2027 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships [Big12Sports]. Prior to Greensboro, the championships were often held on campus at West Virginia or Texas, with Texas recently joining the SEC in July 2024 [SwimSwam].
