Wyandotte School Board Trustee Resigns After Facebook Controversy

Wyandotte Public Schools board member Cindy Kinney resigned on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, following significant public backlash over a Facebook comment comparing Muslims to dogs. The resignation was confirmed by board member Nick Beaven-Parshal.

Backlash and Calls for Resignation

The controversy stemmed from Kinney’s response to a Facebook post posing the question, “dogs or Muslims. You can only keep one.” Kinney replied with “dogs.” The comment was widely criticized as discriminatory and hurtful by residents and local leaders.

At a school board meeting held on Tuesday night, all of Kinney’s fellow board members publicly called for her resignation, according to attendees. The Wyandotte Board of Education subsequently passed a resolution denouncing the comment as discriminatory and not representative of the board’s views.

Kinney’s Response and Absence

Kinney issued an apology for the comment but did not attend the Tuesday night meeting, citing a pre-planned vacation. She had served on the board for 12 years.
