Wyoming Cowboys Football Announces 2026 Schedule
LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 9, 2026) – The Wyoming Cowboys football program, in conjunction with the Mountain West Conference, unveiled its 2026 football schedule on Monday afternoon. The schedule features a season opener against long-time rival Colorado State and a home schedule with multiple opportunities for fans to see the Pokes in Laramie.

Schedule Highlights
The Cowboys will kick off the season on September 5 with a road game against the Colorado State Rams, marking the 118th edition of the “Border War” rivalry. Wyoming will then return home to War Memorial Stadium on September 12 to host Northern Colorado for the 28th all-time meeting between the two programs.
A September 19th matchup at Central Michigan will follow before Wyoming opens Mountain West Conference play on September 26 against Hawai’i. The game against the Rainbow Warriors will be for the Paniolo Trophy.
The Cowboys will then embark on back-to-back road trips, visiting North Dakota State on October 3 and San Jose State on October 10. Wyoming returns home on October 17 to host Mountain West newcomer Northern Illinois, marking the Huskies’ first trip to Laramie since a memorable overtime contest in 2016.
The following week, October 24, Wyoming will welcome Air Force to War Memorial Stadium. The Cowboys will have an open week on Halloween.
November Road Swing and Home Finale
November will see the Cowboys on the road for games at UNLV (November 7) and UTEP (November 14), the first meeting with the Miners as members of the Mountain West Conference. Wyoming will return home to host New Mexico on November 21 before closing out the regular season with a non-conference game against UCONN on November 28.
The Mountain West Championship Game, featuring the two teams with the highest conference winning percentages, will be scheduled at a later date.
Cowboys Look to Build Momentum
Third-year head coach Jay Sawvel returns a solid core of players and has added a significant number of transfers to the roster. Wyoming welcomes back 28 lettermen from the previous season and has added 41 players through signing and the transfer portal – 21 on defense, 19 on offense, and one specialist.
The offense will be led by new offensive coordinator Christian Taylor, formerly of the Buffalo Bills, and quarterback Tyler Hughes, who played for Taylor at William & Mary. Running back Samuel “Tote” Harris too returns after leading the Cowboys in rushing yards last season.
On defense, coordinator Aaron Bohl returns key players like safety Jones Thomas, linebacker Ethan Stuhlsatz, and nickel Desman Hearns. Punter Bart Edmiston is also back after averaging 46.1 yards per punt in the previous season.
