Xbox March 2026 Update: New Dynamic Wallpapers, Handheld Compatibility and Cloud Gaming Enhancements
Microsoft has rolled out a substantial update to its Xbox ecosystem, encompassing consoles, cloud gaming, and related services. The March 2026 update introduces new features and improvements for Xbox Series X|S consoles, expands handheld compatibility, and enhances the Xbox Cloud Gaming experience.
New Dynamic Wallpapers for Xbox Series X|S
The Xbox March 2026 Update introduces three new dynamic wallpapers for the Xbox Series consoles, inspired by Sea of Thieves, Towerborne, and Crimson Desert. These dynamic wallpapers add visual flair to the Xbox Series X|S home screen.
Expanded Handheld Compatibility
Three additional games have been added to the Handheld Compatibility Program: Crimson Desert, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and Towerborne. These titles are now optimized for apply on portable gaming devices, such as the ROG Ally and ASUS Ally. Sea of Thieves is one of the titles available.
Xbox Play Anywhere Program Surpasses 1,500 Games
The Xbox Play Anywhere program, which allows seamless switching between PC, Xbox console, Xbox Cloud, and Xbox Handheld, has surpassed 1,500 supported games. This program provides flexibility for gamers to continue their progress across multiple devices.
Stream Your Game Feature Exceeds 1,000 Compatible Titles
The Stream Your Game feature, available to Game Pass subscribers, now supports over 1,000 compatible games, including recent additions like Crimson Desert, Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered, WWE 2K26, and Planet of Lana 2: Children of the Leaf. Resident Evil 7 will also be added soon. This feature allows Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and Essential subscribers to play first-party titles in the cloud on compatible devices. Sea of Thieves is also compatible with this feature.
Xbox Cloud Gaming Updates: Touch and Mouse/Keyboard Support
The March update also brings new control options to Xbox Cloud Gaming. Touch controls are now supported for BallXPit, and mouse and keyboard support has been added for 17 video games, including High on Life 2, Death Howl, and The Expanse: A Telltale Series.
Sea of Thieves Celebrates Eighth Anniversary with Free Weekend
To celebrate its eighth anniversary, Sea of Thieves will be available to play for free on Xbox from March 19 to March 24, 2026. TrueAchievements reports that players will also receive bonus loot during the free weekend.
