Xiamen Wildlife Protection Month Opens With Biodiversity Exhibits and Anti-Poaching Enforcement
Xiamen launched its thirty-sixth wildlife protection month on October 13, 2026, opening a public awareness campaign centered on local biodiversity and anti-poaching measures, xm.cnr.cn reported. The opening event, themed Meet City Wild Partners!
, took place at the south square of Zhongshan Park, drawing crowds of residents and tourists to educational displays and interactive exhibits.
Organized by the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning and undertaken by the Xiamen Wildlife Protection Association, with co-organization from the Siming District Municipal Garden Bureau, the month-long initiative highlights the city’s coastal wetland ecosystems and local species. Lin Sheng, secretary-general of the Xiamen Wildlife Protection Association, demonstrated illegal trapping tools to attendees, including ultra-fine mist nets that trap birds and prevent escape, urging the public to dial 110 immediately if they spot such equipment.
Interactive Educational Exhibits and Legal Outreach at Zhongshan Park
The Zhongshan Park venue featured immersive zones displaying local wildlife resources, illustrated species boards, and dedicated guides on preventing bird collisions with buildings. Staff from the Xiamen Intermediate People’s Court ecology tribunal provided on-site legal interpretations of the People’s Republic of China Law on Protection of Wildlife, detailing prohibited hunting methods and penalties for consuming illegal wildlife products.
Stage performances during the opening ceremony featured themed dance routines alongside mascot costume characters that interacted with visitors and children. Volunteers distributed leaflets detailing wildlife rescue steps and bird protection practices, while the organizing committee officially launched a public charity painting exhibition titled Hello, Wild Partners!
to collect original artwork focused on urban ecological preservation.
