Xiaomi Watch S5 Launches with eSIM, Extended Battery Life, and Advanced Health Tracking

Xiaomi has officially launched the Watch S5 in China, positioning it as a versatile sports smartwatch with a focus on long battery life and modern connectivity features like eSIM support. The device is available in standard and eSIM versions, with pricing starting at 1,199 yuan (approximately $175 USD) and 1,399 yuan (approximately $205 USD) respectively. Design and Display

The Watch S5 features a 46mm dial and a 1.48-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels and a pixel density of 323 PPI. The display boasts a peak brightness of up to 2,500 nits, ensuring visibility even in direct sunlight. The watch case is constructed from 316L stainless steel with an integrated bezel. Color options include Black and Silver for the standard model, and Forged Carbon and Midnight Blue for the eSIM version. The Midnight Blue variant features a ceramic bezel with 24 facets, while the Forged Carbon edition utilizes a layered forging process for a more technical aesthetic.

Battery Life and Connectivity

A key feature of the Xiaomi Watch S5 is its impressive battery life, claimed to reach up to 21 days in power-saving mode and 9 days with typical use and Always-On Display (AOD) enabled. Huaweicentral notes this is comparable to Huawei’s Watch GT 6 series. The eSIM version allows for independent connectivity, enabling communication and notifications without a paired smartphone.

Health and Fitness Tracking

Xiaomi has incorporated a latest four-light, four-PD sensor system into the Watch S5, claiming heart rate accuracy of up to 98.4%. Sleep tracking has also been improved with an updated algorithm that enhances sleep onset and wake detection by approximately 11%. The smartwatch supports over 150 sports modes, including cycling, swimming, and running, and features auto-start workout detection. Additional health monitoring features include calorie counting, pedometer tracking, blood oxygen level monitoring, menstrual cycle tracking, fall detection, and 24-hour stress monitoring with breathing relaxation exercises.

Smart Features and Ecosystem Integration

The Watch S5 includes dual-frequency GNSS support for improved location accuracy. It also integrates with the Xiaomi ecosystem, connecting with Xiaomi vehicles (including the SU7 and YU7 electric cars) and smart home devices like smart door locks. Users can even view camera footage directly on the watch. Xiaomi’s official announcement highlights this ecosystem integration as a key selling point.

Pricing and Availability

The Xiaomi Watch S5 is currently available in China. The standard model is priced at 1,199 yuan (approximately $175 USD) in Black and Silver, while the eSIM model costs 1,399 yuan (approximately $205 USD) in Forged Carbon and Midnight Blue. Global availability details have not yet been announced.
