In the early morning of the 23rd, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in Wushi County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang. The reporter visited the two earthquake areas in Wushi County and Aheqi County in the Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture and found that people in the earthquake areas have sufficient material support and live a stable and orderly life. The treatment of the injured, resettlement of the people, and disaster investigation are being steadily advanced.

According to a report from the Xinjiang Emergency Management Department on the 23rd, the earthquake injured 5 people, 4 of whom were residents of Aheqi County. Tang Ye, Party Secretary of the Aheqi County Health Committee, said that after receiving preliminary treatment at the county People’s Hospital, the four injured people have been transferred to the Aksu Prefecture First People’s Hospital for treatment. The injured people are currently in stable health condition and in good spirits.

54-year-old Kanjahan Assanahong was one of the injured people. Liu Xiaofeng, an orthopedic surgeon at the First People’s Hospital of Aksu Prefecture, was her attending doctor. Liu Xiaofeng introduced that Kanjahan Assanahong suffered a fracture in his cervical spine because he was hit by a heavy object during the earthquake. “At present, the swelling of the patient’s injury has basically subsided. We will organize a consultation to determine the condition of his injury and carry out the next step of treatment based on the assessment.”

The reporter learned from the earthquake relief headquarters of the two counties that currently, a total of 8,714 people have been relocated in Wushi County and a total of 9,632 people have been relocated in Aheqi County. The reporter visited multiple resettlement sites in the two places and found that the affected people had water, electricity, hot meals, warm clothes and heating equipment, and sufficient material support.

At a resettlement site in Kalasu Village, Yamansu Kirgiz Township, Wushi County, a steaming pot was set up in the courtyard, and residents were queuing up to receive lunch. Kadiya Kurban told reporters that the tent she lives in is equipped with a stove and an electric heater. “Although it is very cold outside at night, you will not get cold when sleeping in the tent, so you can live here with peace of mind.”

In the past few days, relief supplies from all over the country have been continuously transported to the earthquake area. As of the early morning of the 25th, the Red Cross Society of Wushi County had received a total of 450,000 yuan in donated funds and more than 8,700 pieces of supplies. Ban Enbo, vice president of the Red Cross Society of Wushi County, told reporters that when using materials, the local Red Cross worked closely with the grassroots governments of the disaster-stricken towns and villages, “not only to ensure that the materials are distributed to the affected people in a timely manner, but also to ensure that the materials are received and used openly. transparent.”

After the earthquake, some houses in the earthquake area were damaged to varying degrees. Li Linyu, deputy director of the Xinjiang Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, said that currently, the housing construction system has organized various professionals to inspect 16,818 houses, including 8,079 damaged houses and 210 collapsed houses. At the same time, staff also conducted inspections of municipal infrastructure such as water supply plants, drainage plants, heat exchange stations, and gas filling stations.

According to information from the China Seismological Network, as of 8:00 on the 25th, a total of 2,708 earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.1 in Wushi, Xinjiang, were recorded, including 129 aftershocks of magnitude 3 or above. In response to the continuous aftershocks, Li Linyu said that relevant staff will conduct a secondary inspection of house damage based on the actual situation to ensure the safety of people’s housing.
