Mexico City Launches Xoli Chatbot to Enhance Tourist Experience Ahead of 2026 World Cup

The Mexico City government has unveiled Xoli, an AI-powered chatbot designed to provide tourists with real-time information about activities, culture, and transportation within the city. The launch is part of broader efforts to prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Mexico will co-host with the United States and Canada [1]. However, officials have confirmed that Xoli will remain active even after the tournament concludes, serving as a permanent resource for visitors [1].

A Digital Guide to Mexico City

Developed by the Digital Agency for Public Innovation in collaboration with the Ministries of Tourism and Culture, Xoli is accessible 24/7 via WhatsApp in both English and Spanish [2]. Users can initiate a conversation by sending “Hola” to +5255 6565 9395 [2] and then select their preferred language.

Xoli offers a wide range of information, including details on museums, restaurants, hotels, cultural events, concerts, festivals, and transportation options [3]. It can also assist with planning personalized itineraries by searching for activities by date [4]. The chatbot is designed to understand natural language, allowing users to ask questions in a conversational manner, such as “What museums do you recommend I visit with children?” or “Where can I find concerts this weekend?” [4].

Preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

With Mexico City set to host the opening match of the 2026 World Cup [4], the chatbot will also provide specific information related to the tournament, including event details, match schedules, public viewing locations, and ticket purchasing options [1]. The 2026 World Cup is expected to be the largest in history, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches [2].

A Permanent Resource for Tourism

According to Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, Secretary of Tourism for Mexico City, Xoli embodies the city’s hospitality in the digital realm, helping visitors navigate the more than 3,000 daily activities available [4]. The government intends for Xoli to remain a permanent resource for tourism, promoting economic activity and facilitating access to public services beyond the World Cup [1].
