Architect Julia Gallagher transformed a cramped 40-square-foot townhouse powder room by installing mood ring wallpaper, warm burgundy tiles, and a custom corner mirror, Yahoo reported.
JAGA Studio Design Choices for Amma Phaff’s Powder Room
The tiny bathroom previously suffered from a cramped layout where the door could not fully open because of the toilet placement. Julia Gallagher, principal architect and founder of JAGA Studio, worked on the project for her cousin and client, Amma Phaff, as detailed by Apartment Therapy. Both grew up under the creative influence of their grandmother, inspiring a shared love for bold colors and creative energy.
To maximize the restricted footprint, Gallagher selected a mood ring wallpaper for both the walls and the ceiling. Gallagher described the pattern as feeling like a cross-section of Bubble Yum bubblegum. For the flooring, she chose matte ceramic tiles in warm burgundy featuring matching grout that picked up one of the distinct color rings in the wallpaper.
Layout Changes and Custom Mirror Installation
The renovation required layout adjustments to improve daily functionality. Gallagher removed the speckled stainless steel toilet and replaced it with a porcelain model that provided adequate clearance for the door to open completely. She also removed the original vanity, swapping it out for a space-saving wall-mounted porcelain sink.
Finding someone to cut the mirror proved to be the most difficult part of the bathroom transformation. Once installed, the intentional placement of the corner mirror made the tiny space immediately feel larger. Gallagher noted that the combination of the corner mirror detail and the psychedelic wallpaper transformed the room into a joyful jewel box hidden inside the home.
