Durae Concert Celebrates 180th Performance with Yang Ha-young
Goyang, South Korea – The Durae Concert, a long-running performing arts series in Goyang City, is set to host its 180th performance on April 29th at the Sarasae Theater in Goyang Aram Nuri. The special concert will feature renowned Korean singer-songwriter Yang Ha-young, marking her fourth appearance with the series since 2021.
A Legacy of Community and Music
Founded in 2009 by Hwang Seon-beom and Son Deok-gi, Durae Concert began as a small, 40-seat house concert held next to a dental clinic. The founders envisioned a space for musical communication within the community.1 Over the years, the concert series has grown in popularity, consistently attracting audiences of 200-300 attendees each month, with special concerts drawing crowds of up to 1,000.
A Diverse Lineup of Artists
The 180th Durae Concert will showcase a diverse range of musical talent alongside Yang Ha-young, including cellist Seongji Song, percussionist/saxophonist Kim Soo-han, pianist Jeong Eun-ju, and vocalist Hyeon Seok Hyeon.2 This reflects Durae Concert’s commitment to presenting a variety of performing arts on a single stage.
Record-Breaking and Philanthropic Impact
With 180 performances to date, Durae Concert has established itself as the longest-running program of its kind hosted entirely by the private sector.3 The series has welcomed over 45,000 attendees and featured more than 3,000 performers spanning genres such as vocal music, opera, jazz, Korean traditional music, musicals, popular music, crossover, and a cappella.
Beyond its artistic contributions, Durae Concert has a strong philanthropic focus. For the past 15 years, proceeds from performances have been donated to support various charitable causes, including scholarships for children with cancer, support for local children’s centers, assistance for seniors living alone, aid for children in foster homes, and international aid initiatives.4 Proceeds from the 180th concert will benefit the Dongnyok Community Children’s Center in Ilsan Dong-gu.
Sustained by Community Support
The concert series is financially supported by ten self-employed and small business sponsors, with Doore Dental Clinic serving as the main sponsor, alongside local hospitals, cafes, restaurants, and beauty salons.2
