On January 30, the Tencent “Qingyun Scholarship” award ceremony was held in Shenzhen. The project aims to support young talents and scientific research.In the first phase, 15 winners will be selected. Each winner will receive incentives worth a total of 500,000 yuan, including 200,000 yuan in cash and cloud heterogeneous computing resources worth 300,000 yuan. Yao Shunyu,chief AI scientist of Tencent CEO/president Office,presented awards to the winners at the scene.
Xi Dan, Senior Vice President and Chief Talent Officer of Tencent Group, said at the award ceremony that the original intention of establishing the “Qingyun Scholarship” is to implement the concept of “more worthy exploration”, attract and encourage more outstanding young people to devote themselves to cutting-edge scientific research, and cultivate leading talents with international vision and innovation ability. This support is open and does not seek commercial returns. It is a continuation of Tencent’s long-term commitment to the growth of young talents.
According to project staff, the “Qingyun Scholarship” has received nearly 400 applications from students across the country since its launch in October last year. After rigorous review and multiple rounds of defense by a jury composed of more than 40 senior experts, 15 winners were finally selected. They are mainly concentrated in cutting-edge fields such as multi-modal intelligence,large language models,AI Infra,and AI for Good.
One of the winners, Dong Guanting, a doctoral student at the Hillhouse School of Artificial Intelligence at Renmin University of China, said he was very surprised to be able to stand out from the many applicants. His research directions are clever details retrieval and agent reinforcement learning. He has published more than 10 papers in top international conferences such as ICLR and NeurIPS, and has been cited by Google Scholar more than 10,000 times.
Other winners also come from computer science, artificial intelligence and their intersection fields, demonstrating outstanding research capabilities and profound academic attainments. Such as, Bai Yushi of Tsinghua University has published papers at many top international conferences, and the open source data sets and models on Hugging Face have been downloaded more than 2 million times. Deng Yangtao of the Chinese University of Hong Kong designed and developed a fine-grained, real-time data dependency tracking and root cause analysis system. Related work has been applied to industrial-level pre-training clusters. Li Lei from the University of Hong Kong focuses on multi-modal large language models and interpretability research. He shared his understanding of “taste” at the scene and believed that good research paper titles are often concise and clear.
With the development of artificial intelligence technology, the supply and demand of the AI talent market are booming, and the competition for talents among major Internet companies and leading AI companies is becoming increasingly fierce.Many companies have launched incentives, such as MiniMax’s million-dollar option incentive plan, ByteDance’s option incentive for the Seed department, etc. Tencent also attracts and cultivates AI talents through multiple special programs such as the Qingyun Plan and the AI Product Manager Trainee Program.
