The young man who died yesterday at the Penco Lirquén Hospital after presenting symptoms similar to those of the aforementioned virus was identified as Matías Uribe.

Once at the community hospital, laboratory tests and a chest x-ray were performed, the findings of which, together with the clinical evaluation, guided the doctor on duty to the suspected diagnosis of Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndromewhich is why his transfer to Las Higueras Hospital was requested.
During the waiting period for the transfer, the patient had cardiopulmonary arrestcardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers were immediately initiated, which were unsuccessful, and his death was confirmed.
Afterwards, A blood sample was taken, and a rapid test for Hantavirus was performed with a positive result..
This sample will be sent to the Guillermo Grant Benavente Hospital and, subsequently, to the Institute of Public Health (ISP) for the corresponding diagnostic confirmation.
The Municipality of Penco clarified that in coordination with the health authority and health teams, the situation is constantly monitored, activating the protocols established to protect the health of the community and reinforce preventive and informative measures against this disease.

For its part, during the day on Saturday and this Sunday, various expressions of support and condolences were recorded for the family of the young athlete.
