Gouda’s 1828 Complex Prioritizes Young Residents with Unique Selection Process
Gouda, Netherlands – The 1828 complex in Gouda’s Spoorzone has begun renting 247 affordable studios and apartments specifically designed for young people. The project aims to address housing shortages for this demographic and foster a sense of community, but potential residents will face a unique selection process.
A Focus on Community and Affordability
The 1828 project, initiated by Ernest van der Meijde, focuses on providing housing for young adults aged 18 to 28. Approximately 85% of the units will be designated as social housing, with monthly rental prices ranging from €713 to €1,096 (excluding service costs). Potential tenants may also be eligible for rent subsidies depending on their individual circumstances ZoGouds.nl.
Unique Selection Process: The ‘Orientation Day’
With over 5,900 young people already expressing interest, securing one of the 247 units will be competitive. Rather than a traditional application process, 1828 will host an “orientation day” where applicants will be evaluated to ensure a good fit within the community. According to van der Meijde, the goal is to bring together a group of residents who will contribute to a positive living environment. ZoGouds.nl
