Green Bay Wins Third Straight Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship, Earns NCAA Berth

INDIANAPOLIS – Green Bay secured its third consecutive Horizon League Tournament championship on Tuesday, defeating Youngstown State 57-49 at Corteva Coliseum. The Phoenix (25-8) have earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Jenna Guyer led Green Bay with 21 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Maddy Skorupski added 13 points and six rebounds for the Phoenix.

Youngstown State (24-9) was led by Paulina Hernandez with 12 points, while Sophia Gregory contributed 11. Casey Santoro added nine points and nine rebounds.

Game Highlights

Green Bay outscored Youngstown State 17-10 in the fourth quarter to break a tight contest. A 9-0 run in the fourth quarter, sparked by five points from Guyer, gave Green Bay an eight-point lead with 2 1/2 minutes remaining. Skorupski sealed the victory with a pair of free throws, extending the lead to 10 points with 43.1 seconds left.

Trailing by three at halftime, Green Bay came out strong in the third quarter with seven points from Meghan Schultz and late midrange jumpers from Kristina Ouimette, taking a 40-39 lead into the final period.

Youngstown State’s season is likely to continue with a to-be-announced postseason event. Green Bay will now prepare for its 21st appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
