Mandatory evacuation orders are in place west of Nevada City as the Yuba Fire burns approximately 20 acres of grass and brush in Nevada County, according to Cal Fire. The fast-moving grass fire ignited Wednesday afternoon, prompting immediate road closures and threatening local structures near the South Yuba River State Park.
Yuba Fire Evacuation Zones and Closures
According to Cal Fire NEU, crews responded to the fire in a field located in the 11000 block of Yuba Ridge Drive. The fire was burning at a moderate rate of spread as of 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, threatening at least one structure. Three specific zones—NCO-E075, CSP-E058, and NCO-E085—initially received mandatory evacuation orders. Officials subsequently downgraded zone NCO-E085 to an evacuation warning, while zones NCO-E074, NCO-E245, and NCO-E311 remain under active evacuation warnings, according to local emergency services.
The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office advised residents who need extra time to evacuate to leave immediately. Local authorities have shut down several key transit routes, including Jones Bar Road, Newtown Road, and Nishinam Gulch at Highway 49.
Emergency Resources and Shelter Locations
A temporary evacuation point has been established at the Madelyn Helling Library, located at 980 Helling Way in Nevada City.
For residents needing assistance with animals, a temporary evacuation shelter is open at the Nevada County Horseman, situated at 10600 Bubbling Wells Road in Grass Valley. The cause of the Yuba Fire remains under investigation by fire officials.
