Yuzuru Hanyu’s “Notte Stellata 2026” Opens in Miyagi, Marking 15 Years Since the Great East Japan Earthquake

Two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu opened his ice show, “Yuzuru Hanyu Notte Stellata 2026,” on March 7 at Sekisui Heim Super Arena in Miyagi, Japan. The performance commemorates the 15th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and expresses Hanyu’s hopes for the region’s continued recovery [1].

A Message of Hope and Connection

Hanyu, now in his fourth season as a professional figure skater, performed with the Tohoku Youth Orchestra for the first time. He presented four pieces, including two new compositions by the late Ryuichi Sakamoto: “Happy Conclude” and “Yae no Sakura” [1]. Hanyu expressed his desire for the performance to strengthen the bonds between people, stating, “Because it’s been 15 years, I want this performance to make us feel connected, to feel the bonds between us. This marked Hanyu’s first public performance since July, following a period of maintenance, and recharge. He performed in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,500 spectators [1].
