Published February 23, 2026

Zachery Ty Bryan, best known for his role as Brad Taylor on the hit television series “Home Improvement,” has been sentenced to 16 months in jail stemming from a 2024 DUI arrest. This time, the actor will not be granted probation, marking a significant turn in his ongoing legal troubles.

Plea Deal and Sentencing

Bryan was rearraigned on Monday, February 23, 2026, after pleading guilty to driving under the influence. He similarly admitted to an enhancement for driving with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.15% or higher – nearly double the legal limit of 0.08% (KESQ). The judge denied probation and sentenced Bryan to 16 months in county jail, with credit given for 57 days already served (TMZ).

Prior DUI Convictions and Additional Charges

Court documents reveal Bryan admitted to having two prior DUI convictions, which contributed to the severity of the sentence (TMZ). He faces further legal complications with outstanding warrants in other counties following the completion of his jail term.

Bryan was initially booked by La Quinta Police in 2024 for driving under the influence with three or more prior offenses, and also faced a misdemeanor contempt of court charge (KESQ).

History of Legal Issues

This DUI conviction is the latest in a series of legal challenges for Bryan. He was arrested in October 2020 following an argument with his partner, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, and charged with felony strangulation, fourth-degree assault, and interfering with a police report (TV Insider). He later pleaded guilty to two domestic violence misdemeanor charges, receiving seven days in jail and 36 months of probation (TV Insider).

Allegations also surfaced regarding Bryan’s involvement in a fraudulent scheme tied to an agriculture technology startup, where he allegedly took investments ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 under false pretenses (TV Insider).

Recent Arrests

According to reports, Bryan has been arrested six times between 2020 and 2025, including a separate DUI arrest in Oklahoma in October 2024 (KESQ).
