He recalled seeing a cover band perform Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water” in his youth, describing the performance as “amazing” and a pivotal moment. He likened the experience to witnessing magic, inspiring him to learn the instrument.
He also credited guitar teacher Leroy Wright for providing invaluable guidance and mentorship, comparing the learning process to unraveling a magic trick. Wylde specifically mentioned learning the lick to AC/DC’s “Back In Black” as a particularly rewarding experience.
A Legacy of Collaboration and Influence
Wylde reflected on the profound impact music has had on individuals, referencing Tom Petty’s description of music as “the truest form of magic.” He also recalled Ozzy Osbourne’s recollection of The Beatles and their transformative effect on the musical landscape.
Black Label Society’s lineup includes Zakk Wylde on vocals and guitar, John “JD” DeServio on bass, Jeff Fabb on drums, and Dario Lorina on guitar.
